About Scott

Hi folks, my name is Scott DeMoranville. Along with my wife Nickie, son Nolan and daughter Maddigan, we are “4Dʼs Farm,” located in Bradford Maine. Both Nickie and I are independent NPIP (National Poultry Improvement Program) testers for the state of Maine. Many folks may know me from the Maine Poultry Connection of FaceBook, where I share information that “works for us,” to help other poultry owners and those hoping to own poultry. Using old and new techniques in housing, feeding, and general care. Growing up in a rural town in SouthEastern Mass., I began showing poultry about 1975. My passion grew from there, and eventually in 1987 my then fiance and I started a small custom hatchery. Our first year as a custom hatchery we hatched approximately five thousand chicks. Through the years, we have continued to keep fowl both egg producers, exotics, imports and ornamentals. Presently we keep about 24 breeds of fowl including Peafowl, chickens, geese, ducks and turkeys. Like others, we work hard to provide people of Maine with local chicks that are a step above average “hatchery” chicks. Our goal is to help others, whether your just getting started, or a long time poultry owner. Hopefully, some of the “what works for us” that we share will be beneficial to improving your experience in keeping a flock.

Welcome aboard our blog page, we hope to have some fun blended with some serious information about keeping poultry (the new pet). We will do our best to keep it interesting and fully intend to get out and meet some poultry owners and get their take on how itʼs done. Along the way, we will all learn a little something be it a good reason for “why the chicken crossed the road” or how to improve on keeping birds through the winter in Maine. We will also be posting some short “how to videos” and will certainly welcome ideas from you. Until our next blog remember if your rooster lays an egg in the neighbors yard itʼs still your egg and probably worth a mint ;)
